CargoNet's approach to traffic safety
Railway safety in Norway is among the best in Europe, according to European accident statistics. CargoNet holds licenses and safety certificates to operate railway services in both Norway and Sweden, issued by the Norwegian Railway Authority and the Swedish Transport Agency, respectively.
CargoNet has established a safety management system to ensure that we meet both governmental requirements, internal demands, and society’s expectations for safe and secure transport. At CargoNet, we prioritize safety and have skilled professionals responsible for areas such as safety management, risk management, emergency preparedness, security, investigation, and handling of unwanted incidents.
Bane NOR is responsible for the operation of the infrastructure, and thus the safety on the tracks.
All our locomotive drivers must complete basic education. In Norway, this is done at the Train Driver School. CargoNet is also certified as a training center and can conduct further training and certification of our own employees. Our terminal staff undergo internal training at CargoNet. All operational personnel participate in regular internal training to, among other things, ensure the safety of freight transport by rail.
